Liverpool Hope University, along with the Royal Court Liverpool have launched an exciting, new national competition to find the next great comedic play and eminent playwright of the future.
The Liverpool Hope Playwriting Prize offers both established and undiscovered writers the opportunity to not only have their work produced at the Royal Court Liverpool, but the chance of a £10,000 cash prize.
In addition to the main prize, two runners up will receive ‘highly commended’ awards of £1,500. There is also a separate category for the under 21s, with the younger winner receiving a £2,500 first prize and £500 for the two runners up

The judging panel will include one of the UK’s most performed playwrights and Visiting Professor of Contemporary Theatre at Liverpool Hope University, John Godber, Principal Lecturer in Drama and Theatre Studies at Liverpool Hope University Dr John Bennett, Chief Executive of the Royal Court Theatre Kevin Fearon, and Liverpool Echo Arts Editor, Catherine Jones.
All entries are made anonymously, but must be submitted online no later than midnight on 30th May 2014. Unfortunately any entries received after this date will not be eligible for inclusion. Details of those shortlisted will then be released with the winner announced in November as part of the Cornerstone Arts Festival 2014.
