Tamworth Literary Festival, in conjunction with The Tamworth and District Civic Society and Tamworth Writers Group, have recently launched a brand new writing competition. Sponsored by Tame Valley Wetlands with total prizes just over £300, the competition is open to everyone.
Pen a short story, maximum 1,500 words, and submit before midnight on January 31st 2017 to be in with a chance of winning. All entries are judged anonymously and winners are to be announced in April. A selection of the best entries will be included in an anthology, to be produced later that year and timed to coincide with a walk around the town where any of the entrants can join us to read their entry inside or outside the venue.
Note whilst Tamworth does have a number of iconic buildings, this competition does not have to be about the castle, church, alms houses, town hall or moat house. It could be set in a generic pub, restaurant, railway station, church or even a private residence. The only rule is it must be a genuine address in the town of Tamworth – even if you don’t live there this is easily solved by a quick look at an online map! Indeed perhaps there is not even a need to write a new short story. Maybe simply dusting off that short story you know has something to offer and tweaking it by adding that crucial Tamworth address or building will suffice. Open to all, published or not, it is the piece should not have been published previously. Feel free to pass this on to your friends, family, colleagues, indeed anyone who you think may be interested in seeing their name in print. Full rules follow:
Entries to be typed in black ink, double spaced using one side of A4 only, in size 12 font. Please use a Word document (or comparable) and ensure your contact details and word count appear on a covering letter and NOT on your entry to facilitate anonymity at the judging stage.
