2.3 Membership & Meetings

MEETINGS

Generally, we meet on the THIRD SATURDAY of the month, with the exception of the December meeting when we meet on the second Saturday. The next meeting date will be displayed on our home page.

All meetings start at 10.00am and last until 12 noon. However, we have access to our room from 9.00am, which means if you arrive before 10.00am you have the opportunity to mix and chat with the others, as they arrive, and discuss any writing problems you have, either with everyone who is there, or quietly in a smaller group.

Our meetings tend to take the following format (but please note that they are subject to change, especially if we have a guest speaker).

10.00am until 10.45am – update of news, sharing of successes, results of last month’s Chairman’s Challenge competition and a read through of this month’s submissions.

10.45am to 11.00am – tea/coffee break.

11.00am to 12.00 noon – workshop/discussion

MEMBERSHIP FEES

Membership of the group currently costs £20 per year. (We review the membership fee annually at our (brief) AGM, held each January). This goes to cover room hire costs and any guest speakers we may invite throughout the year. Please note that this annual fee does not include our October Workshops, which take on a different format, and for which there is an additional charge if you wish to attend (usually about £10).

The £20 covers membership for twelve months and is due at the January meeting. (If you join the group later in the year the membership fee is reduced proportionately – please see our constitution for further details.) Alternatively, you can pay £3 for each meeting you attend (therefore, if you plan attending most meetings the annual membership fee is the cheapest option).

There is no charge for your first meeting. If you want to find out more about the group, we would suggest coming along to a meeting – remember, the first one is free, and then try us for another two or three meetings (simply paying £3 for each one you attend). If you decide you’ve found some like-minded individuals then you can choose to continue paying £3 each month, or pay the appropriate membership fee for the rest of the year (as mentioned above – see Section 5 of our constitution.)
