For our 2016 retreat we headed down the beautiful Heart of Wales railway line to the isolated hamlet of Cynghordy.
For our 2015 retreat we didn’t travel far. In fact, we only just crossed the border into Wales and the beautiful Tanant Valley.
For our 2014 retreat we retreated back to Plas Colwyn, in the relative civilisation of Beddgelert and all of its amenities (we mean procrastination opportunities).
We’d heard on the grapevine (okay, it was the Internet) that Llanfendigaid had been refurbished, so we couldn’t resist the opportunity of going back to this Welsh coastal property for another retreat.
The sea! The sea! In 2011 the Welsh coast came calling again, but this time, a little further south than we’d been before … to the secluded cove of Cwmtydu.
The 2010 retreat took place in Gwynedd, when, a bit reminiscent of last year, there’d been a lot of rain …
It’s quite worrying what some writers will do when they know they’re being videoed!
In 2009, the group ventured into a new region of Wales for a retreat. Lake Vyrnwy. There’s a big reservoir there, because it rains a lot.
A tuneful lot on retreat this year…
(there’s more …)
In 2008 we returned to the Welsh coast, just north of Tywyn, to a large house called Llanfendigaid, which we would return to in the future!
In 2006 we headed off to what was once the Marquis of Anglesey’s Fishing Lodge, beside it’s own private lake (useful if the property was a fishing lodge), within sight of Snowdon. We all fell in love with the location of Castell Cidwm.
The 2005 Wrekin Writer Retreat headed a little further north from our 2004 retreat, into mid-Wales for our 2005 retreat at Builth Wells.
In 2004, with more and more Wrekin Writers retreating, we headed south, for a change, to the Upper Swansea Valley, for a property at the end of a two-mile single-track lane …
For 2003 we hit the Welsh coast again (spotting a pattern here, are you?), but this time we headed north to the town of Mostyn.
By 2002, the Wrekin Writer Retreats were becoming established, requiring bigger and more ‘interesting’ properties, so in 2002 we headed off to the Welsh coastal of Tywyn.
In 2001, six of us headed across to the Welsh coast, to Barmouth …
The first Wrekin Writer Retreat involved four writers, staying in a property in Llanbrynmair, in mid-Wales … and became the first of many.
